Playwrite – Hull Truck Theatre’s writing programme

PlayWrite is Hull Truck Theatre’s writing programme, open to playwrights with any level of (in) experience! Led by Steven Jon Atkinson, Hull Truck’s Literary Development Manager, PlayWrite is a ten-week course held on Tuesday evenings which will equip you with all the tricks of the play writing trade.

Summer/Autumn 2007 courses - apply today!

Two separate Playwrite courses will run for two age groups, each held over a period of ten weeks, on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Course dates:
Ages 18-28: July 10th – September 11th 2007
Ages 29+ : October 9th – December 11th 2007

The Course: Over 10 weeks, participants will be encouraged to write theatre, alongside looking at individual elements of play writing, such as character, narrative, form, dramatic action and character dynamics. Participants will be introduced to classic plays by accomplished playwrights, and will be invited to watch a Hull Truck Theatre production free of charge.

Throughout the course, participants will be encouraged to write an original play, which will ultimately be read by Hull Truck’s Artistic team, including Joint Artistic Director Gareth Tudor Price and Associate Director Nick Lane. Every participant will receive detailed feedback and experience the process of developing a new play with a professional Theatre.

Application details: Applicants are asked to submit an introductory letter, outlining their writing experiences (if any) and why they would like to take part in the programme. Applicants should also submit an example of their play writing. This could be a stand-alone piece of writing or an extract from a full-length play, but examples should be no more than 2 A4 pages, single spaced, font size 12.

Please note: PlayWrite courses are free of charge, but successful applicants will be required to pay an administration fee of £1.15 (18-28) per week or £2.50 (29+) per week; payable in full prior to the first session.

Applications will be accepted by email to literary*at*hulltruck.co.uk
Or by post: Literary Department, Hull Truck Theatre, Spring Street, Hull, HU2 8RW
