Akira Kurosawa, writer-director, interview,

Message from Akira Kurosawa: For Beautiful Movies #2 - Screenplay (video)

"You need to think about what you haven't been able to create yet. But you should be focussing on the characters not the storyline...But if you can develop a character the storyline will naturally emerge. Even with a plot centred approach, if you can't develop your characters, the film won't be interesting. Film-makers focus on developing the plot first but if all your characters are superficial and stereotypical you can't get anything interesting started."

Heads up from Zach.
